Some or any
These articles determine an unspecified quantity of liquid, food, or other items that are not countable. They precede nouns in French and although English articles have no equivalent for the partitive articles, loosely translated, they mean any or some.

- to talk about an uncountable object or one without a determined quantity
Je veux préparer du thé
Elle ajoute de l’huile
- to talk about moral characters
Tu as de la confiance
J’ai du courage
- after the verb faire
Nous faisons de la piano
- with abstract nouns after verbs like falloir
Il faut du courage (You need courage.)
