Possessive Adjectives

Possessive adjectives are one way of showing ownership. Just as in articles, they have masculine, feminine, and plural forms.

They are:

How to use

Possessive adjectives are used in agreement with the gender and number of the noun.

  • If masculine singular, the adjective will follow suit:

C’est mon sac

  • If feminine singular, the adjective will follow suit:

C’est ta porte.

  • If masculine or feminine plural, the adjective will follow suit:

Ce sont leurs pantalons

Note

The gender or number of the possessor is not the determinant of the gender or number of the adjective. These are determined solely by the noun.

Exemple: John a sa chemise (John has his shirt)

Using sa in this sentence does not mean that John is a female but rather that chemise is a female word.

Autres exemples

  • Jenny joue avec votre téléphone.
  • Mina et moi ne balayons jamais notre maison.
  • Ce sont leurs parents.
  • Kunmi a mes livres.
